As a steel mill conveyor systems manufacturer, the engineers at Industrial Kinetics have the ability to design and manufacture conveyor systems for this industry. Due to the nature of steel fabrication and each steel mill’s manufacturing process, our conveyors are custom designed to meet the demands of that particular production process. Conveyors transport extremely heavy material and often at high temperature, so they’re designed and built to accommodate the rugged environment of a steel fabrication plant.
Steel Mill Conveyor Features
Steel mill conveyors syste are made from steel and special alloys to handle high temperature. The different materials used in steel mill applications that these conveyors are built to handle are scrap steel, steel tubing, steel pipe, sheets of steel or aluminum, fabricated steel parts or castings. For steel mills and any other application, IKI manufactures for, weight limit depends on several factors such as the conveying surface, motor power rating, and conveyor support structure.
Steel Mill Conveyor Types
The wire used for fabricating these belts is typically stainless steel or annealed carbon steel. Typical applications that are well suited for a wire belt conveyor include: moving product through extreme temperatures such as freezing, cooling, frying, baking, and in the case of metals – heat treating. Due to its resistance to damage from sharp edges, the conveyor type is ideal for handling steel parts, scrap metal, or recycled material.
Chain conveyor consists of parallel strands of roller chain to move the load. These rows of chains along rails that support and guide the chains as well support the load. The multi-strand chain conveyor is ideal for applications where a minimum amount of stopping and starting is required. If they are used in a pallet conveying application, the bottom boards of the pallet need to be perpendicular to the chain.
Chain-driven live roller or CDLR is a conveyor that moves the load on the tops of evenly spaced rollers with sprockets. A length of heavy duty chain engages with these sprockets to turn the rollers and move the load. This positive drive makes it the perfect system for moving pallets, containers, or fabricated steel. Heavy duty chain-driven live roller conveyors can handle loads of up to 50,000lbs and have shock absorbing bearing mounts, stops, guides, and digital scale interface.
A slat conveyor includes one or two loops of chain. Attached to this chain are non-overlapping, non-interlocking slats. In-floor slat conveyors are perfect for moving large engines, cars, trucks and buses through the assembly process. The slat conveyor design allows for uninhibited access for assembly line workers.
