Conveyors for Automotive Applications

Industrial Kinetics offers custom designed conveyors for automotive applications. This application requires an efficient assembly process for the various automotive parts handled, and as an automotive industry conveyor systems manufacturer, IKI has the manufactured material handling system for any specific need.

Dimensions for these conveyors can be unique based off a customers’ needs. For instance, a carrier, a part of an overhead conveyor system, might be custom designed to accommodate the physical dimensions of the parts that need to be conveyed. Our engineering team can also design a material handling system specific for a particular need.

Automotive Industry Conveyor Features

A variety of materials are incorporated in our conveyors including steel, plastic, rubber and fabric. Parts of a vehicle that the conveyors in this specific industry can handle are pallet loads of cartons, vehicles during the assembly process, parts for the assembly line such as bumpers, seats, or drivetrains.

Automotive Conveyor Types

In automotive assembly applications, the slat conveyor assembly is embedded in the floor. In-floor slat conveyors are perfect for moving large engines, cars, trucks and buses through the assembly process. The slat conveyor design allows for uninhibited access for assembly line workers.
Towline Conveyors share some design features and benefits of the slat conveyor. This conveyor system is also embedded in the floor, allow assembly line employees full access to the vehicle being transported along the vehicle assembly line. The conveyor system consists of an endless chain loop which is enclosed in formed straight or curved sections embedded in the floor. Carriers or carts with the load are pulled be the chain in the track section.
Overhead conveyors include monorail, power and free, and electrified monorail systems (EMSs). Carriers that hang from the overhead conveyor line allow easy access to the products being conveyed. In a vehicle assembly environment, the overhead conveyor is often used to move large objects, such as bumpers and door subassemblies to the production line. The overhead conveyor combines directional flexibility with a simple, rugged design that can move product through manufacturing processes that other conveyors can’t.
Roller conveyors are common fixtures in the manufacturing environment. The conveying surface is extremely durable, so it provides years of trouble-free service and minimizes costs associated with downtime. These conveyors can be powered or non-powered where the product being conveyed is being moved by forces of gravity. A chain driven live roller is often used for moving large heavy pallets or totes through a car manufacturing assembly plant.
